There
are nearly eighty golf courses in Andalucía, of which
fifty are on the Costa del Sol. The fine weather allows golf
to be popular all year round.
Europe’s capital of golf, the
Costa Del Sol, offers a wide range of top quality courses
to suit golfers of all abilities - from the technically demanding
to the more straightforward. Most golf courses are within
easy reach of your accommodation and nearly all golf courses
have practice facilities and offer professional golf tuition.
Choose
from a range of courses, such
as Valderrama,
one of Europe's leading golf courses.
La
Duquesa Golf Club
Designed
by Robert Trent Jones Sr., La
Duquesa is one of the Costa del Sol’s most varied
and spectacular golf courses,
and thanks to its wide fairways, it offers a reasonable challenge
to golfers of all standards. The par-3 8th hole, just 129
metres, has a lofty, perched tee form whose balcony players
have panoramic views over the sea and coastline. The second
nine is a little more complex but the Mediterranean, Puerto
de la Duquesa, Gibraltar and the mountains are always in sight
and from the par-4 15th the view stretches as far as Marbella.
Estepona
Golf Club
Estepona
Golf offers a round of golf in a magnificent setting on
a demanding course. The fairways, however, are wide and the
greens are large so the secret is probably not to be too ambitious.
The design uses the natural landscape set against the Sierra
Bermeja mountains. There are views of
the Mediterranean from most holes.
The third hole, a taboggan-run of a par-5, is a daunting prospect
with the green way below and tantalisingly out of reach. A
couple of hearty blows should do the trick. The par-4 10th
with its high tee offers braver souls the option of going
for the green 250 metres away. It’s all downhill, curving
to the left, and there’s water on both sides of the
green. Later you come to the par-3 14th where you are expected
to thread the needle uphill to a green nearly 200 metres across
a ravine. Every hole brings a new challenge.
The clubhouse overlooks the 18th green and beyond to the Mediterranean.
Try the excellent cuisine or buy something in the reasonably
priced golf shop. Estepona is one of the Costa del Sol’s
most popular golf holiday courses.
